Subject: | MS4 Mandate Suspension Request |
As you are likely aware, municipalities throughout the Commonwealth have begun to institute, or have recently increased, stormwater fees, also known as rain taxes, to comply with the unfunded mandate of the MS4 program required by the federal government. These fees have been and will continue to be burdensome to the citizens and businesses of the Commonwealth who must pay them. Considering the current economic conditions caused by the COVID-19 crisis, my resolution calls on the U.S. Congress to amend the law to allow for a 2 year extension compliance deadlines with regard to the MS4 program. It also calls on President Trump and the EPA to extend compliance deadlines for states and municipalities under the MS4 program for a period of 2 years to facilitate economic recovery. Residents should not be worried about attempting to pay these increased fees in the current economic situation when so many are now unemployed and struggling. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation to grant reliefs to our citizens. |
