Subject: | “National Family Literacy Day” in Pennsylvania |
Literacy development is the foundation for success in academics, learning how to socialize with others, developing independence, and so much more. However, literacy does not simply develop on its own. Families can help build literacy development in their children through early intervention methods, such as reading with their children, sharing stories, and practicing creative writing. Through these methods, children will form powerful brain connections used for language, thinking, and understanding. As a community, we must nurture and encourage reading, writing, and language skills amongst our children. My resolution will recognize November 1, 2020, as “National Family Literacy Day” in Pennsylvania. National Family Literacy Day highlights the benefits of encouraging family time for families and advocates for intergenerational family literacy programs in schools, libraries, and other literacy organizations. Please join me in celebrating this important day that benefits our children and supports learning together as a family. |
