Subject: | Eliminating the Sunset Provision for the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Act |
Please join me as a co-sponsor of legislation to eliminate the sunset from the Pennsylvania Cancer Control, Prevention and Research Act. The statute governs the Pennsylvania Cancer, Control, Prevention and Research Advisory Board, which approves the Pennsylvania Cancer Plan and advises the Department of Health with respect to cancer control, prevention and research. The statute also provides for a system of statewide collection and dissemination of data on cases of cancer. This act was first enacted in 1980 with a sunset of June 30, 1984. Since then, its provisions have been extended by acts of the General Assembly in Act 102 of 1984, Act 126 of 1988, Act 67 of 1992, Act 103 of 1996, Act 33 of 2006, and Act 85 of 2016. Based on this track record, I believe that the need for this statute has been firmly established. |
