Subject: | Resolution designating November 2019 as “Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness and Caregivers Month” in Pennsylvania |
We plan to introduce a resolution designating November 2019 as “Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness and Caregivers Month” in Pennsylvania. Alzheimer’s is an irreversible degenerative brain disorder that affects 5.8 million Americans. In Pennsylvania, over 400,000 citizens are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or related disorders. Individuals afflicted with Alzheimer’s or related disorders require constant care and supervision. Many of these individuals are cared for by unpaid informal caregivers such as family members, friends, or loved ones. Last year, 676,000 of these informal caregivers provided an estimate of 770 million of unpaid care valued at $9.7 billion. Nationally, more than 16 million Americans provided an estimated 18.5 billion hours of unpaid care for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease or related disorders. “Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness and Caregivers Month” gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of Alzheimer’s and related disorders and recognize the devotion of our informal caregivers. Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
