Subject: | Resolution: Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims in Pennsylvania |
Between the years of 2012 to 2019 year-to-date, over 5,000 Pennsylvanians fell victim to the heinous crime of murder. Many of these victims lived vibrant lives surrounded by family and friends. Some were prominent members of their communities. A murder impacts not only the victim, but those who called the victim a son, daughter, brother, sister, husband, wife, partner, friend, or co-worker. In 2007, the United States Congress unanimously passed a resolution marking the 25th of September as a National Day of Remembrance for Murdered Victims. The passage of this legislation came after years of advocacy by the parents, family, and friends of individuals who had their lives cut short by this terrible crime. This occasion is meant to serve as a day of reflection for all those whose lives have been impacted by a murder, and to remind them that they are not alone in their struggle. We ask that you please join us in co-sponsoring this critically important resolution. |
