Subject: | Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week |
Approximately one in five children experience poor mental health. Oftentimes, this can manifest in many ways including a general sense of hopelessness, depressive episodes, and through the development of mental health disorders, including mood and anxiety disorders. About 70% of children do not receive intervention at a sufficiently early age, which directly impacts how they develop. Indicators of poor mental health are often overlooked and can result in serious consequences. To mitigate this problem, I plan to introduce legislation that will designate April 29 – May 6, 2019, as “Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week,” in order to bring awareness to this growing issue in Pennsylvania. Information about resources, services, risk factors, and early signs of potential mental illness is crucial in order to help children build happy, healthy, and successful lives. It is our duty as public servants to do everything we can to support the mental health of our young constituents. Please join me in the fight for healthier minds and bodies of Pennsylvania residents and our future generations to come. |
