Subject: | Local Share Assessment |
In the near future, I will be introducing legislation to ensure that volunteer fire and ambulance service organizations are prioritized when local share grants from expanded gaming are awarded. Under Act 42 of 2017, several new forms of gambling were legalized in the Commonwealth. Three of the new forms of gambling (iGaming, Sports Betting and VGTs) created three new local share grant accounts to be administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), and the CFA may award these new local share grants to public projects in any county in the state. My legislation would simply require the CFA to prioritize grants from these new local share accounts for volunteer fire and ambulance organizations that do not receive local share from the brick-and-mortar casinos. While I believe every volunteer organization provides an invaluable service to their local community, my legislation will prioritize grants to organizations that have not received local share from slots and table games in order to provide a more equitable distribution of gaming dollars across the state. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
