Subject: | Recognizing March 2019 as “National Nutrition Month” |
Research indicates that the typical American diet exceeds the recommended intake levels for calories from fats, sugars, refined grains, sodium and saturated fat. Further, at least three-fourths of the population has an eating pattern that is too low in vegetables, fruits, dairy and healthy oils. Poor nutritional habits such as these can have serious impacts on a person’s health and put them at risk of cardiovascular disease, obesity and some forms of cancer. In an effort to address the disconcerting nutritional practices that are commonplace among many Americans, I am introducing a resolution recognizing the month of March 2019 as “National Nutrition Month” in Pennsylvania. This month presents an opportunity to focus on the importance of making informed food and nutrition choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. Through increasing public awareness of the importance of good nutrition, it is my hope that all Pennsylvanians learn of the transformative power of food. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
