Subject: | Requiring Notice for Removal of Lawfully Parked Vehicles |
Sometimes situations arise where an individual legally parks their vehicle only to have it moved by law enforcement. As an example, if a vehicle is parked where street work or a parade is scheduled, but before signage is posted, law enforcement can perform a “courtesy tow” meaning they can relocate the vehicle. As has happened to many people in my area, these vehicles end up being ticketed after they are towed through no fault of the owner. Making matters worse, if the owner wishes to fight the ticket, they have no proof of why their vehicle was moved. To lessen some of this hassle, I am introducing legislation that would require law enforcement to affix a sticker to the moved vehicle indicating the date, time, and purpose of removal, its new location, and the entity responsible for the removal. Not only will this legislation help to alleviate stress for responsible drivers, it will also aid said drivers in challenging wrongly received parking tickets. Join me in helping to protect law-abiding drivers from unnecessary anxiety and liability. |
