Subject: | National Senior Independence Month |
As we grow older, our communities become a source of support and engagement and they represent a critical connection to cherished people, places, and memories. Unfortunately, while the majority of older Americans would prefer to age in place in their communities, issues such as unsafe living conditions, lack of transportation, and the risk of falling make it incredibly difficult. Only 59% of Americans over the age of 50 anticipate that aging in place will be a possibility for them. As a state with one of the largest and rapidly growing populations of older adults, it is our job to protect and promote the independence of older Pennsylvanians. Therefore, it is my sincere hope that you will support me in designating the month of February 2019 as “National Senior Independence Month” in Pennsylvania to promote healthy lifestyle tips, bring awareness to fall prevention, and highlight the importance of livable communities for older Pennsylvanians. Please join me in helping to improve our law in Pennsylvania by co-sponsoring this legislation. Previous Co-Sponsors: Bizzarro, Boback, Bullock, Burns, Caltagirone, Conklin, D.
