Subject: | 70th Anniversary of the Founding of the State of Israel |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring 70th anniversary of the founding of Israel. As you may know, the Jewish people have endured a long history of invasion, oppression, discrimination, persecution, dislocation, and genocide. In the years following the Holocaust, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for the establishment of an independent Jewish state and on May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was established. In a geographical area comprised of ancient Middle Eastern lands, from which Jewish people had been largely dislocated for approximately 2,000 years, Israel has maintained a sovereign state with a successful democracy, a strong economy, a powerful military, and a commitment to peace among all people. Israel has been a strong ally to the United States of America in this region, and this relationship continues today. Please join me in commemorating the State of Israel on its 70th anniversary. This resolution was considered in 2017 as HR323 and the following members were co-sponsors: BAKER, BARRAR, BOBACK, BOYLE, CALTAGIRONE, COX, DAVIDSON, DiGIROLAMO, DONATUCCI, DRISCOLL, FRANKEL, FREEMAN, GAINEY, GODSHALL, GROVE, HENNESSEY, PHILLIPS-HILL, KAUFFMAN, KAVULICH, LONGIETTI, MACKENZIE, MARSICO, McNEILL, MENTZER, MICCARELLI, MILLARD, MURT, NEILSON, O'BRIEN, O'NEILL, PASHINSKI, PETRI, READSHAW, ROEBUCK, ROTHMAN, SAMUELSON, SAYLOR, SCHWEYER, SOLOMON, TALLMAN, TOOHIL, VAZQUEZ, and WATSON. |
