Subject: | Commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks |
In the very near future, I will be introducing a resolution commemorating the 150th anniversary of the founding of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. Founded in New York City on February 16, 1868, by Charles Algernon Sidney Vivian, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks is a fraternal organization established for social and philanthropic engagement. Dedicated to justice, charity and patriotism, the Elks have distributed more than $3.6 billion in cash, goods, and services to the nation's veterans, disadvantaged persons, persons with disabilities and civic programs. In March of 1868, the Elks began their philanthropic work in the Commonwealth when their second lodge was organized in Philadelphia. Please join me in commemorating this important event for an organization that has done some much to benefit both the Commonwealth and our great nation. |
