Subject: | National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and National Mammography Day |
In the near future I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing October 2017 as “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and October 20, 2017, as “National Mammography Day” in Pennsylvania. In recognition of “National Breast Cancer Awareness Month” and “National Mammography Day,” it is imperative that we continue national and state efforts to raise breast cancer awareness. Although the public has become more informed about preventative care and the benefits of early detection, the American Cancer Society estimates that 249,260 women and men in the United States will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer this year. Therefore, we must continue to educate the public about breast cancer and stress the importance of routine self-breast exams, regularly scheduled doctor visits, and yearly mammograms as recommended. As stewards of public health, we must work collectively to spread awareness about this devastating disease. Please join me in cosponsoring this important legislation. |
