MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 11, 2017 10:00 AM
From: Representative Michael H. O'Brien
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution recognizing January 17, 2017 as the Birthday of Benjamin Franklin

In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing January 17, 2017 as the Birthday of Benjamin Franklin and celebrating the life and accomplishments of someone often referred to as "the most brilliant man of the 18th Century."

Benjamin Franklin had a strong belief that good citizenship included an obligation of public service which he more than met as a Past Chief Clerk and Speaker of the PA House of Representatives, signer of the five founding documents of the United States as well as helping in drafting the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Driven by a sense of Civic duty, Franklin also was deeply involved in the community helping to found the Union Fire Company, Library Company of Philadelphia, University of Pennsylvania & American Philosophical Society.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this Resolution recognizing the birth of this extraordinary person.
