Subject: | Resolution recognizing the Month of May 2016 as “National Community Action Month” in Pennsylvania |
In the coming days, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing the Month of May 2016 as “National Community Action Month” in Pennsylvania. Authorized by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, community action agencies assist low-income individuals and families in attaining financial self-sufficiency. As a Federal program uniquely designed to address local target population needs, the community action network features local private-sector, public-sector, and low-income community representatives working in concert to address these individuals and families in need. The community action network serves more than 16.2 million individuals and 3 million families per year in rural and urban regions of our nation. In our Commonwealth, community action agencies receive funding including core Federal funding from the Community Services Block Grant. Ultimately, community action agencies are integrated into our communities to provide people with the tools they need to improve their living conditions and move from poverty into self-sufficiency. Please join me in recognizing the Month of May 2016 as National Community Action Month in Pennsylvania. If you have questions, please contact my office at (717) 772-9850. |
