Subject: | Resolution - Type 1 Diabetes Education |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution encouraging the education of Type I diabetes in the Commonwealth. Type I diabetes, previously called insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus or juvenile-onset diabetes, is usually diagnosed in children and young adults. It is estimated that only 5% of people with diabetes have this form of the disease. Since the symptoms of Type I diabetes may resemble other conditions or medical problems, patients may often be misdiagnosed. My resolution will encourage health care practitioners in the Commonwealth to educate and discuss the warning signs and symptoms of Type I diabetes with patients. Educating the public about diabetes is vital and individuals must be aware of the measures they can take to avoid the disease and to take effective measures if they do fall victim to it. I hope you join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
