Subject: Resolution Designating April 2105 as Community Service Appreciation Month
 
In the near future, I will be reintroducing a resolution that recognizes the month of April as Community Service Appreciation Month in Pennsylvania.

Every year millions of Pennsylvanians volunteer for charities, foundations, and non-profit corporations with the goal of improving their communities, our Commonwealth, and our country. I feel it is time for the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to recognize community service and honor those often nameless volunteers.

In 2013, 2.76 million Pennsylvanians volunteered 342 million hours of service. The Corporation for National and Community Service estimates that one hour of a volunteer’s time is worth $21.94. We should be applauding this time, money, and effort spent for the greater good.
