Subject: | Allowing All Former Judges in Good Standing to Solemnize Marriages |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce HB 2462 from last session. This bill will allow for all former judges in good standing, elected or appointed, regardless of length of service, to solemnize marriages. Under current law, only elected former judges or those whose appointment aggregate service exceeds a full term of office (10 years for common pleas and above, 6 years for minor judiciary) may solemnize marriages. This seems to be an unnecessary distinction. For those interested, the bill merely removes the current disqualifying language from Title 23 Section 1503 (a) (2) (i). Please consider cosponsoring this common sense change. Previous co-sponsors: THOMAS, V. BROWN, McNEILL, MULLERY, ROZZI, VEREB, COHEN and MURT |
