MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 17, 2014 11:37 AM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Resolution Designating September 2014 as “Light the Night Walk Month” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, I will introduce a resolution designating September 2014 as “Light the Night Walk Month” in Pennsylvania.

Since the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) was founded in 1949, it has dedicated more than $1 billion in funding for blood cancer research and patient services. Through fundraising and outreach efforts, LLS has helped hundreds of thousands of people diagnosed with many types of blood cancer live normal, productive lives.

Each year LLS helps coordinate Light the Night Walks in local communities throughout North America to honor blood cancer survivors and those lost to the disease. The donations raised by Light the Night Walk participants fund breakthrough therapies for blood cancer patients and provide access to treatment, support programs, and educational materials. Families, friends, and co-workers form fundraising teams and millions of consumers help by donating at retail outlets. All of these efforts culminate in inspirational, memorable evening walks in nearly 200 communities each fall.

This year, Pennsylvania communities will hold Light the Night Walks in Erie, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, York, Lancaster, Scranton, Allentown, Johnstown, Uniontown, Wayne, Newtown, and Philadelphia. I believe it is imperative that we lend our support and encouragement as Pennsylvanians raise awareness of blood cancers and gather donations to support research efforts and patients’ needs.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation.
