MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 23, 2014 02:58 PM
From: Representative Dom Costa and Rep. Harry Readshaw
To: All House members
Subject: Public Employees Retirement - Disability

In the near future, we plan to introduce legislation that will allow certain public employees in Allegheny County to retire early in the event of permanent mental or physical disability.

Firefighters and policemen in Allegheny County put themselves in danger every day to ensure the safety of the public. It is our duty to help them in any way we can in the event they become permanently disabled, either mentally or physically, as a result of an injury sustained in the line of duty. This legislation amends the Second Class County Code to allow these fine, upstanding public employees the option of retiring early in case a tragedy occurs that renders them unable to work.

This legislation is necessary so we can take care of those who have made a significant sacrifice to keep us safe.

Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation.

Introduced as HB2273
