Subject: | Co-sponsorship Memo for Honoring Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Social Action Committee |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing and honoring the statewide Social Action Committee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Delta Sigma Theta is the largest African-American women’s organization in the nation. The Sorority boasts 20 chapters throughout the Commonwealth with more than 1,500 members. Incorporated during a period in American history where women were advocating for political and social equality, the 22 founding members of Delta became domineering advocates of the Women’s Suffrage movement, setting the stage for the organization’s commitment to social activism. Over the past century, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have led countless initiatives addressing pertinent social and political issues, including voter registration and education; equal educational opportunities for children; financial literacy and economic empowerment; academic and financial support for Historically Black Colleges and Universities; and access to quality and affordable health care. Please join me in recognizing and honoring my Sorors of the Social Action Committee of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., ‘a sisterhood called to serve.’ Thank you for your support of this resolution. |
