Subject: | Resolution – Celebrating the Confirmation of Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to the U.S. District Court |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution congratulating the Honorable Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro on becoming the first Latina federal judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. As a Latin American, Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro’s confirmation reflects the diversity of the American people in the judiciary. Furthermore, as an individual of Latin American heritage, I share great joy in congratulating the first Latina on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. On January 4, 2013, President Barack Obama nominated Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to a seat vacated by Richard Barclay Surrick and on Thursday June 13, 2013, the United States Senate voted to confirm Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. A native of Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro was the first Latina judge on the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas and is the first federal Latina judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. As an individual who embodies qualities such as being a good listener, patience, fairness, impartiality, courteousness, reasonability, ethics and decisiveness, Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro will serve as a highly qualified representative of the Latin American community to this great nation. It is the hope of Latino’s, like myself, that Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro will receive the honor and respect that she deserves as she assumes this prestigious position in our Commonwealth’s history. Please join me in congratulating the Honorable Nitza I. Quiñones Alejandro on this momentous achievement, by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
