Subject: | Condolence Resolution: Honoring the Life and Contributions of Robert W. Edgar |
In the near future, I will be introducing a condolence resolution honoring the life and contributions of Robert W. Edgar, Pennsylvania Congressman and Common Cause President, who sadly passed away on April 23, 2013. Bob was elected to the U.S. House in 1974, representing the 7th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. During his six terms, Bob led efforts to improve public transportation, authored the Community Right to Know provision of the Super Fund legislation and served on the House Select Committee on Assassinations that investigated the deaths of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and President John F. Kennedy. His wide-ranging career has also included pastorates at United Methodist congregations and stints as a teacher, college chaplain, community organizer, and director of a “think tank” on national security issues. As president and CEO of Common Cause, one of the nation’s most effective grassroots advocacy organizations working for democracy reform, Bob traveled tirelessly to raise the organization’s national profile and its critical mission to strengthen our democracy. All members are encouraged to join me in paying respect to his life and legacy. |
