A RESOLUTION Designating March 19, 2013, as “Arts Education Advocacy Day” in Pennsylvania WHEREAS, The Arts—dance, music, theater, and visual arts—are considered, in Pennsylvania and nationally, core academic subjects of the same importance as math, science, and the humanities; and WHEREAS, A quality arts education strengthens the development of cognitive and social skills --- such as creativity, confidence, problem solving, communication, perseverance, and focus --- that are crucial in the preparation of all Pennsylvania’s students for future growth; and WHEREAS, Engagement in the arts encourages engagement across all subject areas and promotes overall academic success; WHEREAS, Experiences in art-making and performing help students discover, cultivate, and share their unique talents as gifts to society; and WHEREAS, Students benefit when arts experiences help to transcend cultural barriers, evoke universal emotions, and reveal the ever changing society in which we live; and WHEREAS, An investment in arts education is an investment in an educated and productive citizenry and workforce; therefore be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designates March 19, 2013, as “Arts Education Advocacy Day” in Pennsylvania as a time to recognize arts education as integral and essential every year to the education of all Pre-K, elementary, and secondary students, and to express appreciation to arts educators throughout the Commonwealth. |
