Subject: | Re-introduction of Legislation - Buy American (Formerly HB 2178) |
In the near future I will be introducing Buy American legislation designed to put Americans back to work. The legislation would ensure that iron and other manufactured goods used in taxpayer-funded infrastructure projects and procured by government agencies are made in American factories. Our state’s procurement policies should reflect Pennsylvanian and national values, so that the products of those companies and workers who abide by our environmental laws and regulations and workplace safety be rewarded with a reasonable preference in government contracting. State taxpayer dollars should not be used to support companies who have moved their operations, investment dollars and jobs to foreign countries, or to reward foreign producers that completely disregard environmental standards as well as worker safety. We should also reinvest taxpayer dollars with individual and employer taxpayers in order to foster jobs, particularly within the manufacturing sector, and to promote a robust tax base for future investments vital to the state’s infrastructure. Finally we should balance these considerations with price competitiveness so that unnecessary costs are not ultimately passed on to our citizens. This legislation was previously introduced in the 2011-2012 legislative session as HB 2178. Previous Co-Sponsors: Rep. Barrar, Rep. Bishop, Rep. K. Boyle, Rep. Brennan, Rep. Brownlee, Rep.
