House of Representatives
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 28, 2012 11:17 AM
From: Representative Michael H. O'Brien
To: All House members
Subject: Bullying Legislation

I plan to re-introduce a two-Bill package regarding Bullying and Harassment. It is urgent that we work together to protect the citizens of the Commonwealth against this unacceptable behavior, which we know has caused emotional & physical harm including death and suicide.

I ask you to join me in sponsorship of responsible laws which would curtail this horrible behavior and protect our most vulnerable citizens, especially children.

Document #1

Introduced as HB99

Description: This Bill which would provide definitions and penalties, House Bill 271 of last Session was Co-sponsored by the following members:
CALTAGIRONE, KAVULICH, CLYMER, BOBACK,CONKLIN, D. COSTA, DAVIS, DeLUCA, FRANKEL, GILLESPIE, GOODMAN, HARKINS, JOSEPHS, KIRKLAND, KORTZ, KOTIK, MANN, MURPHY, K. SMITH, SWANGER, WATSON AND YOUNGBLOOD.

Document #2

Introduced as HB101

Description: The second Bill in the package, House Bill 879 of last Session, would involve legislation under the School Code regarding bullying.  This Legislation focuses on the School environment and protection and expansion of student’s rights.  The New Jersey State Legislature passed similar legislation which Governor Christie signed into law.  I am hopeful that we can protect the children of this Commonwealth as they have in New Jersey.
