Subject: | Rehiring Practices for Veterans (Previous HB 394) |
I plan to re-introduce legislation that will repeal an outdated Pennsylvania statute. Act 215 of 1945 pertains to the rehiring practices of veterans who were policemen, firemen or park guards in a city of the first class prior to entering into military service during a present hostility. Title 51 (Military Affairs) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes, Chapter 73 (Military Leave of Absence) contains more comprehensive language with regards to the rehiring practices and re-employment protections of individuals who return from military service. In addition to the protections contained in Pennsylvania Statutes; the Federal Government has also enacted numerous pieces of legislation aimed at protecting individuals who are called to duty, enlist or are drafted into the military during a period of hostility. It is my belief that the language contained in Act 215 of 1945 is no longer needed since there are other updated and more comprehensive laws which ensure that our individuals returning from military service are able to return to the positions in which they were employed prior to their service. If you have any questions on this legislation, please contact Connie McClure in my Harrisburg office at 705-7170 or by e-mailing cmcclure@pahousegop.com. Thank you for your consideration and support of this very important piece of legislation. |
