Subject: | Auto Repair and Towing Lien |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would set forth a process for service stations and garages that repair or tow a vehicle to put a lien on the vehicle for lack of payment for services rendered. The lien would only be placed after certain consumer protection measures are overcome. Current law allows these facilities to sell “abandoned vehicles” and provides for reissuance of certificates of title. However, it does not specifically address the situation where a service is provided that results in a lack of payment for those services. Sometimes vehicle owners decide after a collision or accident to not pick up their vehicle and the service station owner or garage owner is left with the expense. My bill is modeled after a similar program in Delaware that addresses this situation. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
