MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 14, 2023 04:50 PM
From: Senator Patrick J. Stefano and Sen. Judith L. Schwank
To: All Senate members
Subject: Resolution Recognizing April 2023 as the “Month of the Young Child” in Pennsylvania

In the near future, we will introduce a resolution recognizing April 2023 as the “Month of the Young Child” in Pennsylvania.

The Month of the Young Child is a time to focus public attention on the needs of young children and their families to recognize the early childhood programs and services that meet those needs.

First established in 1971, the Month of the Young Child is a reminder of the essential childhood programs and services for young children and their families.

We know that participation in high-quality early childhood education saves taxpayer dollars, makes working families more economically secure, and prepares children to succeed.  High-quality early childhood programs benefit children, families, and our state and national economies.

Further, these programs would not be possible without educators who ensure that children have the early experiences they need to build a strong foundation.  Young children need skilled, educated, competent, and consistent educators to, supported by families, help instill the building blocks that will allow them to flourish.

We hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibility and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that every child experiences an environment that promotes early learning.
