MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 31, 2023 02:25 PM
From: Representative Ryan E. Mackenzie
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing November 7th, 2023 as Victims of Communism Memorial Day

In the near future I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing November 7th, 2023, as “Victims of Communism Memorial Day” in Pennsylvania.

Communism, which is based on the philosophy of Karl Marx, provides false promises of equality and liberation, but in reality, deprives citizens of their rights and freedoms. In the 20th century over 100 million individuals have lost their lives to the atrocities that have come with communism. These individuals deserve to be remembered.

While past events have shown us of the terrors that can arise under communism, such as the terrors that occurred under Joseph Stalin, it is unfortunate that one-fifth of the world’s population is still living under communist tyranny.

In 2022, the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization authorized by Congress to educate the public about the human rights violations committed in the name of communist philosophy, opened in Washington DC. The Foundation has advocated that state legislatures should introduce legislation to remember the victims of communism on November 7th so that we may all pause and remember those who lost their lives.

Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important piece of legislation.
