MEMORANDUM

Posted: July 12, 2023 11:55 AM
From: Representative Nick Pisciottano and Rep. Jason Ortitay
To: All House members
Subject: Storage Fee Notification

In the near future we will be introducing legislation to require towing companies to notify the owners of towed vehicles within a timely manner. This simple requirement could be fulfilled with a letter to the owner and is not meant to burden the towing industry, but ensure businesses and consumers do not accrue expensive storage fees without notice.

You may have heard from constituents who have incurred storage fees for vehicles they were unaware were even towed. This legislation seeks to protect vehicle owners without disadvantaging towing companies by creating a low-cost notification requirement.

Please join us in cosponsoring this important and commonsense legislation.

Introduced as HB1642
