Subject: | Designating July 2023 as "Disability Pride Month |
In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution recognizing July 2023 as “Disability Pride Month” in the Commonwealth. The month of July is specifically chosen to commemorate the passing the Americans with Disabilities Act, which became law on July 26, 1990. The ADA prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life, including jobs, schools, transportation, and all public and private places that are open to the general public. The purpose of the law is to make sure that people with disabilities have the same rights and opportunities as everyone else. As we celebrate Disability Pride month, we celebrate our differences, we promote acceptance and inclusion and more importantly the contributions that individuals living with disabilities in Pennsylvania bring to our neighborhoods and communities. Please join us in celebrating Disability Pride Month. |
