Subject: Holding Telecom Companies Accountable

Imagine living in a rural community with limited cell phone coverage and relying on your landline for a medical device that literally could save your life. Now imagine that line not working for six to eight weeks at a time. How scary would that be for you and for your family? To add insult to this incredible lack of service, the telecommunication company makes multiple appointments to come fix your line, but never shows up and never communicates when the service you pay for will be restored.

Soon we will be introducing legislation that will require a telecommunication company to notify a customer if they will not be showing up for a scheduled appointment. If they fail to show up for the scheduled appointment and fail to notify the customer, they will be required to reimburse the customer $25 per hour for the window of time they had the customer stay at home waiting for them.

It’s incredibly sad to need legislation like this, but this was a huge issue that came up in a PUC hearing with a telecommunication company that is constantly failing to fix landlines and leaving customers waiting for hours for appointments that are not being kept, not to mention waiting for weeks for their service to be restored.

Please join us in making sure we hold these companies accountable for their lack of service, as their failures can put lives at risk.
