Subject: | Recognizing June as National Aphasia Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing June 2023 as National Aphasia Awareness Month in Pennsylvania. Aphasia is a condition caused by damage to the language areas of the brain, and most commonly occurs after a stroke. People living with aphasia can have trouble speaking, understanding others, and may be unable to process long and infrequently used words. Roughly two million people in America are affected by aphasia, and many people never fully recover their speech abilities. However, with rehabilitation and support, their condition can improve. By increasing awareness of this condition, we can hopefully continue toward a solution to restore everyone’s speech and comprehension abilities. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
