Subject: | Recognizing “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania |
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is an illness affecting individuals of all races, ethnicities, and backgrounds and involves a repetitive, uncontrollable cycle of obsessive thoughts and compulsive behaviors. While researchers believe genetic predisposition and neurological miscommunication contribute to the disorder, a definitive cause remains unknown. One in every 40 adults live with this illness with over half of these individuals experiencing severe impairment. These are our friends and family members, and they must be supported. It is for this reason that we plan to introduce a resolution to recognize October 8-14, 2023, as “Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. Please consider co-sponsoring this important resolution to raise awareness of OCD and bring visibility to those with this disorder in our communities. |
