MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 29, 2023 11:29 AM
From: Representative Doyle Heffley
To: All House members
Subject: Homestead and Farmstead Property Tax Relief

In the near future, I intend to reintroduce legislation that will provide up to an additional $1000 rebate for all owners of all approved homestead and farmstead properties across the Commonwealth.

Real estate taxes continue to impose a significant burden on our residents and local communities, a fact that is further compounded due to the record inflationary levels that we’ve seen in recent months. As many residents and communities struggle, I think it’s imperative that we, as the General Assembly, take any and all prudent actions to help alleviate the difficult situations our residents and local communities face, especially as we have financial resources currently available at our disposal. That is why I will be introducing legislation to provide a one-time additional rebate, equal to 50% of an approved homestead’s or farmstead’s real estate tax liability or $100, whichever is less. We have tremendous opportunity right now to provide immediate relief for our residents and local communities, while paving the way for continued discussions on providing permanent, longer lasting relief from this burdensome tax.

I respectfully ask for your consideration to join me as a co-sponsor of this important legislation.
