Subject: | Protecting Consumers from Misleading Contracts |
Pennsylvanians enter into contracts every day. Whether it is a contract for cell phones, cable television, home improvement, or another type of contract, full disclosure is necessary and expected. However, too many times, people find themselves on the wrong side of a misleading contract. To protect Pennsylvania consumers, I am introducing legislation to strengthen the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law. My bill creates a deceptive practice when a contract uses confusing or vague language to create provisions that can become void, unenforceable, or inapplicable. The measure will establish a minimum penalty of $100 or allow consumers to pursue damages in a suit against anyone who uses such a deceptive practice. Anyone who enters into a contract or receives a notice deserves full disclosure and understanding of what may become void or unenforceable, along with what triggers these actions. I ask for your support and to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation so we can better protect Pennsylvania families from deceptive contracts and notices. |
