| Representative Solomon and I plan to re-introduce legislation that will make the Keystone STARS program better serve Pennsylvania in two ways. The STARS program ranks Pennsylvania’s child care centers. First, it will require the Department of Human Services to update its Keystone STARS program guidance to provide a pathway for child care employees and providers to receive “credit” for years of experience. Such a change reflects efforts to rework the program and consider many factors in evaluating child care centers throughout Pennsylvania. These changes will reward on-the-job experience, which benefit the children and families these providers serve. Second, our legislation will encourage child care providers to educate families about the Keystone STARS program by advertising their “STAR Status” on their front doors and website. The more educated Pennsylvania families are- the better choices they will be make for their families. Please join us in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
