Subject: Prevailing Wage for Green Energy Projects

As we see an increase in the use of low-carbon energy sources in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that we prioritize the workers who build and maintain the energy infrastructure that all Pennsylvanians rely on. Pennsylvania will see growth in projects such as electric vehicle infrastructure, weatherization, and large and small-scale solar and wind energy generation, via both state and federal funds. There is no doubt that the way we do business in the Commonwealth will change, but with change comes great opportunity and responsibility. While our state utilizes new technologies to establish clean energy projects that reduce carbon emissions, reduce costs, and create the jobs of the future, we also have a responsibility to make sure the work is done well and done safely. That means supporting local workers and ensuring the work is done by highly trained professionals.

To that end, I am introducing legislation to require a prevailing wage be paid by businesses receiving a Federal or State tax credit for renewable energy projects for projects of a certain size. For more than 150 years, Pennsylvania has been a global leader in energy.  For that to continue, we must make sure that hard-working Pennsylvanians have high quality, family-sustaining jobs in the renewable and clean energy sector. It’s our job to make that happen, and my legislation will do just that.

Please join me in supporting Pennsylvania’s skilled workforce.
