Subject: | Legislative Budget & Finance Committee Report on Impact of COVID-19 on K-12 Education |
I will soon introduce a resolution directing the Legislative Budget & Finance Committee (LBFC) to study the impact of COVID-19 on education in the Commonwealth and to issue a report. It is becoming abundantly clear that online learning is not working for a significant number of students in the Commonwealth. In fact, many students still do not even have adequate access to this type on learning. When the pandemic ends, we will be facing a serious problem in terms of the gap between what has been learned and appropriate grade-level proficiency. Thus, it is vital that we have knowledge as to what has occurred in student learning and what needs to be done to remediate after the pandemic. We need to understand and clearly define the problem both in terms of individual students and the skills needed for a robust economic future for Pennsylvania. Please join with me in support of this resolution. |
