Subject: | Resolution designating September 2019 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution designating September 2019 as “Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. The American Cancer Society estimates that 22,530 American women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer this year and 13,980 women will die as a result. Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women. A woman’s risk of getting ovarian cancer in her lifetime is about 1 in 78 and her chance of dying from ovarian cancer is about 1 in 108. Because there is no single test to diagnose ovarian cancer, many women do not receive the diagnosis until late in its development. Ovarian cancer is difficult to diagnose because the symptoms are subtle and are very often misinterpreted by both women and physicians. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution to help raise awareness of ovarian cancer. |
