Subject: | “Stroke Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania Resolution (May 2019) |
Please join me in co-sponsoring a resolution designating the month of May as “Stroke Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Strokes are the fifth leading cause of death for Americans, killing 133,000 annually, and a leading cause of long-term disability. On average, one American dies from a stroke every four minutes and more than 795,000 people in the United States suffer a stroke each year. High blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, obesity, and diabetes are leading causes of strokes and one in three Americans has at least one of these conditions or habits. Knowing the warning signs and symptoms of a stroke is important, as early action is key to lessening brain damage and possibly saving a life. With this in mind, knowledge of F.A.S.T. signs and symptoms, as well as preventative measures are vital. It is for this reason that I would like to designate May 2019 as “Stroke Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
