MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 31, 2020 11:24 AM
From: Representative Thomas P. Murt
To: All House members
Subject: Amend Title 42 to Limit Internet Access for Certain Sex Offenders

This legislation would amend Title 42, Judiciary and Judicial procedure, to limit Internet access for certain sex offenders. If an individual must comply with registration requirements for sex offenders and is found to have used the Internet to commit the offense which led to their classification as a sex offender, they would be prohibited from accessing the Internet. However, there would be special exemptions in place that would allow Internet access for employment related purposes.

By limiting Internet access, there would be an additional protective measure that would prohibit registered sex offenders and other sexually violent predators from preying on children or other Internet users. It is my hope that this limiting legislation can prevent further use of the Internet to commit crimes.

Please join me in support of this legislation.
