MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 22, 2020 12:12 PM
From: Representative Karen Boback
To: All House members
Subject: Epinephrine Injectors

In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that would require four epinephrine injectors per script and limit out of pocket costs for consumers.

My legislation would require four epinephrine injectors per script and limit the out of pocket cost to $100 per script for consumers. If the epinephrine injector is used, a replacement epinephrine injector will be issued at no cost to the consumer.

Many families need multiple sets of epinephrine injectors. In some cases, insurance companies will cover the cost of two sets of epinephrine injectors. If a third set of epinephrine injectors are needed, many families must pay out of pocket. With food allergies and other allergic conditions on the rise, it is important that families and individuals have the lifesaving medications they need. Epinephrine injectors are expensive and can cost families hundreds or even thousands of dollars each year. In 2009, two epinephrine injectors cost $100, but by 2016, the price had surged to $600. No individual should be without this life saving medication because they cannot afford it.

I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation.
