MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 4, 2019 03:52 PM
From: Representative Melissa L. Shusterman
To: All House members
Subject: Employment Fair Practices and Discrimination Notices.

Everyone, regardless of sex, race, religion, or heritage deserves a safe and comfortable work environment. However, if a worker encounters harassment, often they are unaware of their rights or where they can find help.

It is time for us in Pennsylvania to take action, which is why my legislation will amend the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act to require employers to update Employment Fair Practices notices to include descriptions and examples of unlawful discrimination, harassment, sexual harassment and retaliation. By highlighting employees’ rights and outlining what behaviors are unacceptable, workers will be able to more easily identify and report harassment and discrimination on the job.

I ask for your support and to join me in co-sponsoring this legislation, in order to ensure our Pennsylvania employees are provided the best work environments possible and help put an end to workplace harassment and discrimination.

Introduced as HB392
