Subject: | Endangering the Welfare of a Child |
Please join me in co-sponsoring legislation that would provide for stronger penalties for people who leave children unattended in vehicles by making it a third-degree felony to leave a child under age 13 in a motor vehicle without adult supervision. A third degree felony could result in a prison term of 3 ½ to 7 years and a fine of up to $15,000. Under current law, leaving a child unattended is a misdemeanor of the first degree, unless there is a pattern of endangerment and then a third degree felony could be charged. I plan to reintroduce this legislation as a result of several unfortunate incidents in my district when adults left children unattended in cars at Parx Casino. This legislation was cosponsored last session by Senators Fontana, Brewster, Tartaglione, Farnese and Rafferty as Senate Bill 406. |
Introduced as SB355
