Subject: | Resolution recognizing the year of 2016 as the 100th Anniversary of Planned Parenthood |
In the near future I will be introducing a resolution recognizing the year of 2016 as the 100th Anniversary of Planned Parenthood and celebrating the essential healthcare services they have provided to women and families across the country and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Planned Parenthood Federation of America, formerly known as the American Birth Control League, opened the first birth control clinic in Brooklyn, New York in 1916. Since that time, Planned Parenthood has become one of the nation’s leading providers of high quality, affordable health care and sex education. Last year, Planned Parenthood health centers provided basic health care services to 2.5 million patients across the United States. In 2014, testing and treatment of sexually transmitted infections and diseases accounted for nearly half of the services provided by Planned Parenthood, followed by contraception, pregnancy testing and prenatal care, and cancer screening and prevention. I invite you to join me in celebrating this milestone in the history of Planned Parenthood as well as recognizing the increased access to essential healthcare they have provided millions of citizens across this country and in our communities. I welcome your support and co-sponsorship. |
