Subject: | Resolution recognizing April 10, 2016 as “National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. |
In the coming days, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing April 10, 2016 as “National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. As you may know, the national HIV/AIDS strategy reflects recent scientific developments and calls for collective action to reduce new HIV infections, to increase access to care, to improve health outcomes, to address related health disparities, and attain a better coordinated national response to this disease. The national strategy also prioritizes the reduction of HIV infections among our youths here in the Commonwealth and nationwide. The impact of HIV/AIDS among young people is one of the main focuses of the national awareness day and this annual observance is aimed at achieving the goal of reduced infections among our youth. Many young people that are positive with the virus are unfortunately born with it. An estimated 1,000 young people in the United States become aware of their HIV status each month. In response to these alarming numbers, the National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day aims to raise awareness and bring attention the contributions of our young people in the fight against this disease. With that said, young people in our communities have earned recognition for their participation in fighting against this disease and I am proud to offer this Resolution to recognize their efforts.
