Subject: | Extending sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the families of the three Israeli teenagers who were kidnapped and murdered. |
On June 12, 2014, three Israeli teenagers, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and Naftali Fraenkel, were abducted while they traveled home from school in Gush Etzion. Naftali Fraenkel holds United States citizenship. On June 30, 2014, after 18 days of intense searches the teens’ bodies were found in a field near Hebron. The abductions outraged Israel as well as the international community, and several vigils and rallies were held around the United States during the intensive search. The President of the United States Barack Obama called the killings of the teens a “senseless act of terror” and stated that “The United States condemns in the strongest possible terms this senseless act of terror against innocent youth." The murders of these three teenagers are part of a recent cycle of violence in Israel involving the murder and assaults of young people. Israel and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have enjoyed cordial and mutually beneficial relations since 1948, a friendship that continues to strengthen with each passing year. That being said, the Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania expresses its full support and friendship as the people of Israel deal with this tragedy. In addition, the Senate supports Israel’s efforts to find the perpetrators of this crime and bring them to justice and extends sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the families of the three Israeli teenagers, Eyal Yifrach, Gilad Shaar, and Naftali Fraenkel, who were kidnapped and murdered.
