Senate of Pennsylvania
Session of 2013 - 2014 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: April 22, 2014 04:15 PM
From: Senator Michael J. Stack
To: All Senate members
Subject: Broadcast Employment Free Market Act

In the near future, I will reintroduce Senate Bill 1196 of the 2011-12 Session which would make it unlawful for a broadcast industry employer to use non-compete contract clauses against a former employee. The no-compete contract clauses prohibit TV and radio workers from working for stations in the same geographic region for a specified period of time. TV and radio workers should be able to seek work at competing stations when they are terminated through no fault of their own.

In the previous session, this legislation was co-sponsored by Senators Tartaglione, Costa, Brewster, Hughes, Washington, Kasunic and Boscola.

Introduced as SB1375
